Andrew Bush

Andrew Bush is currently a professor at Xavier University where he teaches a variety of music courses. He is graduate student at the University of Louisville where he completed his master’s de-gree in saxophone performance and a second master’s degree in Music Theory. His Master’s thesis was titled “An analysis of Joel Love’s In memoriam for saxophone quartet”. Prior to his gradu-ate school work, he was at Morehead State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in music education where he grad-uated with honors. His musical pursuits have allowed him to trav-el around the country to perform in places such as New York City, Washington D.C., Orlando, and Charleston. He made his first foray into international performance where he was part of the 2012 Morehead State University Symphonic Band International Tour where he performed in Beijing and Tianjin under the direc-tion of Dr. Richard Miles. At the University of Louisville, he per-formed with the Symphonic Band under the direction of Dr. Amy Acklin at the 2016 CBDNA conference in Charleston where he was a featured soloist on the soprano saxophone playing the “Concerto Grosso for saxophone quartet and orchestra or band” by William Bolcomb. He was also a member of the Louisville Winds where he was the principal saxophonist and performed at the 2017 KMEA conference and during March of 2019, he gave a lecture and a world premiere performance at Marian University in Indiana at a NASA (North American Saxophone Alliance) con-ference. His lecture was titled “The psychological significance of motivic development with Joel Love’s In Memoriam” which com-bined music theory, performance, and psychology to deeper un-derstand the development of ethos in Love’s work. Andrew’s students have consistently received the highest honors at Solo and Ensemble and entered the top music schools such as the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville. He has also been a part of, and attended, numerous masterclasses from some of the most well known and recognized saxophone teachers/performers internationally such as Joe Luloff, James Bunte, Tim McCallister, Otis Murphy, John Sampen, and Fred Hemke. His prior teachers are Dr. Nathan Nabb, Dr. Johnny Salinas, Dr. Masahito Sugihara, and Dr. Adam McCord. He has also received further instruction from Otis Murphy, James Bunte, and Steven Stusek. His prior teaching university/college teaching appointments have been at Chatfield College and Thomas More University.
